“A dry Irish style stout, presenting almost black, bearing a generous tan head. The aroma profile is of coffee, chocolate and caramel malts. These are matched on the pallet with a full bodied, smooth finish and a balancing bitterness. Currently being tested to become the first certified ‘space beer’ in the world! ”
The darkest addition to this Manly breweries core range. It comes with a decent little trophy cabinet as well, winning gold in the Australian beer awards in 2012 and picking up silver in 2013 and 2014. Well decorated. Served in a beer tulip the appearance displays an opaque black with a tightly held 1/2 inch tan head that reduced quite quickly without much lacing. The gorgeous roasted aroma gives off plenty of rich and complex characters of espresso, dark chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, fig and licorice. Mildly carbonated with a slightly dry mouth feel. Upfront we detected a good amount of hoppy bitterness on the tongue. Following on, chocolate, burned caramel and espresso through the mid-palate are rounded off by a brilliant nutty, roasted finish. Good duration on the tongue. 5.1% ABV was actually quite low considering this is a craft stout. Very simple and safe, and very approachable. Take nothing away from it though this is a pretty tasty beverage. Good offering.
