Amager bryghus ‘Kaaad’ IPA

image“Throw darkness of you, drop jester loose and bid welcome light! That simple message of our spring IPA “Kaaad” summed up. Not many know this, but a whole generation of Kobe cattle urged a secret location in Amager with the mash left over from our beer. As these – the world’s happiest cows – ate mask from just this beer, they broke out into a cheering muuh so high that it could be heard all the way in the Town Hall square….

Denmark, quite easily one of the best up and coming regions for craft beer brewing and this one shows why. Served in an IPA glass the bright, gorgeous hazy golden-orange pour boasts a slight red tinge. Atop sits a 1 and a half finger beige head that retains well. Good lacing. The nose is producing some absolutely beautiful and juicy aromas, mainly because of the 2 main features, which by the way are our favorite 2 when it comes to an IPA – Grapefruit and orange peel. Also plenty of zesty citrus, pineapple, pine resins, passion fruit and grassy notes all based on a caramel malt backing. Just superb! Mouth feel is slightly dry with medium carbonation. Medium-full body. Flavor is packed full of tasty ingredients as well with a brilliant combination of grapefruit, pine and resinous hops upfront. An assertive hop dryness is smoothed out by subtle caramel and pilsner malts in the mid. A nice whack of herbal/resinous hop bitterness to finish. Good length. 6% ABV is spot on, enough to be there but not enough to override. Excellent IPA, could even be up there with some of the most memorable we’ve ever tried.
