Burleigh brewing ‘hasslehop’ pale ale

Rating:

imageWe like the plug for ‘The Hoff’ here, but unfortunately there were no inspirations from a cheesy baywatch scene that led to the name…it actually came about by the 5 brewers arguing about which hop to use for this brew. Let’s just say they settled it by using all 5 – Galaxy, El Dorado, Citra (Sean, we LOVE YOU!!), Mosaic and Belma.

We served in a shaker glass. The clear amber pour generates a thin fizzy head that slowly peels away to a collar. Minimal lacing. On the nose those five hop varieties get to work with modest hop-aromatic wafts of pine resins, tangy orange/mandarin, lychee, grapefruit, pineapple and passion fruit. Some subtle and sweet undertones of caramel and malt give the aroma a bit more depth. Medium carbonation and body. There’s a lovely dry hop bitterness from start to finish. Grapefruit, orange tang, hints of pine and some caramel sweetness all lead back on to the dry, bitter finish. All flavours, plus the 5.5% ABV marry up nicely, nothing overpowering which makes it quite sessional. Not a bad drop at all. Another nice brew from the boys from the Gold Coast.
