“In the beginning, there was nothing. Then an impish brewer piled a ludicrous amount of hops into a batch of beer. This zymurgical big bang is Epic Armageddon, an apocalyptic assault on your preconceptions and taste buds. It may be too huge for this fragile planet so enjoy this beer like it was the last one on Earth”.
Served in an IPA glass the appearance is reflective of a typical IPA pour – slightly hazy golden/amber with a frothy two finger white head that gradually settles to a thin blanket over the top. Reasonable lacing being omitted. The aroma is brilliant, offering subtle Caramalt sweetness with a hefty tropical fruity hop presence. Wafts of candy sugar, passion fruit, pine and lychee are nicely offset by the light caramel notes. The mouth feel has a slick texture to it, medium carbonation with medium-full body. Upfront the assertive hop dryness is followed by a dominant citric character. Through the mid-palate, grapefruit, lemon and pine are carried by a generous caramel malty backbone which provides a dry, fruity finish with good duration. Overall a well rounded beer. The 6.6% ABV is really well disguised. Really tasty drop, a few of these would go down superbly on a warm day. Delicious IPA from these kiwi brew masters.
