“Red’s Dead is our Autumn Seasonal. Aromas of honeycomb and figs. Flavours of fresh fruity espresso are followed and melon sweetness with an aftertaste of jersey caramels.”
Glassware: IPA glass.
Appearance: Pours a sexy crimson red with a huge three and a bit finger head resting atop. It slowly reduced and leaves a smattering of lace in its wake.
Aroma: Quite rich and dense with the nostrils tingling from the 7% ABV. The hallmark caramelised sweetness so synonymous with red IPA’s takes a back seat to more vinous and raspberry/boysenberry notes. Also somewhat toasty with light toffee accents as well. Fairly complex.
Flavour: We taste burnt orange, subtle chocolate, vinous red fruits and toasty malt on entry. Very syrupy and slightly cloying. It has this kind of artificial sweetness going on that’s a little off putting. She’s bitter, dry and warming in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Sticky and gelatinous with an assertive bitterness. Medium body and co2. 7% ABV is quite noticeable.
Overall: Not really our cup of tea it’s more like a hoppy Irish red ale than a red IPA. A whole lot of meh!
