Holgate brew house nut brown ale

Rating:

image“A modern twist on an old favourite, this Northern England style has been re-imagined with lashings of Australian macadamia nuts and hearty English malts to create a brew that smokes a pipe and spins a yarn. In 2009 this forgotten treasure was deciphered from the tattered pages of Paul Holgate’s well-worn recipe book to celebrate our brewery’s 10th anniversary”.

Yep we adore a good brown ale, especially when there’s an Australian component to it. Served in a shaker glass the gorgeous dark mahogany pour boasts attractive light brown hues. The two finger tanned head swells but recoiled pretty quickly to a halo around the edge of the glass. Laced averagely. Beautiful aroma of caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, cocoa, subtle coffee and a nutty sweetness in the tail. Brilliant, exactly what we’re after in a brown ale. In the mouth it’s smooth and oily with mild-medium carbonation. Medium-full body. The palate is lovely, with the overall flavour being roasted. Crystal and caramel malts, nuts, mocha and subtle toffee notes are mildly balanced by a faint hop bitterness throughout. Lovely roasted finish with good duration on the back end. An ever so slightly complex brown ale here but by saying that, also very highly palatable. 5.3% ABV is spot on. Essentially a very tasty brown ale. Another cracker beer from one of the best breweries in Australia.
