Hop dog beer works ‘American werewolf’ Belgian IPA

Rating:

imageThis is an interesting one from this relatively new brewery from the south coast of NSW. Highly carbonated yet, still quite smooth. Served in a goblet the slightly cloudy gold pour constructed a fizzy 2 inch beige head with good retention. Laced well. Aroma is fruity, with a decent presence of yeast and esters. We picked up a fair amount of resinous hops, some malt sweetness, passion fruit, banana, spice and pear. Frothy mouth feel with medium body. Taste is also quite resinous. Also very carbonated in the mouth with a decent hop profile (NZ Motueka & US Citra). 70 IBU’s are offering an aggressive hop bitterness upfront as the mid-palate mellows and subtle citrus and creamy vanilla notes come through. The hops return in the finish and leave a dry palate with lengthy duration. We’re keen on the overall flavour but the carbonation is quite overpowering, although it doesn’t take anything away from the big hoppy flavour and sweet fruity aroma. 6.5% ABV. Not bad but not great.
