Third Moon ‘Each Beast A God – Breakfast’ Imperial Coffee Stout

Rating:

Glassware: Snifter.

Appearance: Pitch black with two fingers of tan head forming on top. Good retention and a wonderfully complex lace being strewn down the glass.

Aroma: That coffee scent is to die for. It’s sweet and nutty yet roasty and chocolatey. Actually, the chocolate side of this is incredible too…just a hint of bitter dark, shaved and milk chocolate to enhance that end to end contrast already happening. Heavily roasted malts, ash, burnt toast, raw vanilla bean and veeeeery faint maple filling this very impressive aroma out.

Flavour: Quite a distinct pay rise for the maple here…adding that essential sweetness to this bold, roasty beast. The coffee blasts out everything from raw bean to nutty, chocolatey and roasty brew and the bittersweet dark chocolate is there to back it up even further. Slowly filtering through is the vanilla which offsets the heavily roasted finish nicely.

Mouthfeel: Oily, dense and viscous. Medium-full body with low-ish Co2. The 8.5% ABV is spot on.

Overall: Our first crack at this Canadian brewery. First impressions are very good too. The coffee component was on point and the base Stout laid out the foundations well. Solid drop.
