Fremont BA ‘B-Bomb – Coconut Edition’

Rating:

“This year’s release of B-Bomb is aged in 8–12-year-old American Oak bourbon barrels and is a blend of 9, 12, and 24-month old barrel-aged Winter Ale. This special edition adds toasted coconut to complement the bourbon, oak, cacao, leather, toffee, and dark coffee notes achieved from its extended barrel aging and barrel blending. Each barrel contributes a different note, and combining each barrel to create a coherent tone is a distinct art and true pleasure. Please do enjoy this unique barrel-aged ale today but know that Coconut Edition B-Bomb will age gracefully for years to come. Don’t Be Afraid To Be Abominable.

Glassware: Snifter.

Appearance: Pitch black with a wispy brown head. It slowly fades and forms a halo with wet lace dragged down the glass.

Aroma: Holy moly the contrast here is remarkable. At the base there’s a hedonistic fusion of molasses, licorice, dark chocolate, fortified wine and leather but it’s so perfectly lifted by wafts of coconut, vanilla and spicy bourbon. The barrels provide just the right amount of woody oak and toffee. A bit of toasted cacao as well. Phenomenal.

Flavour: It only gets better. The astonishing thing is it’s all so neatly wrapped up without one flavour dominating. One simply compliments the next…molasses into bourbon into licorice into coconut then woody oak, dark chocolate, vanilla, raw tobacco, charred malts, cacao and figs. All together with one big old long finish.

Mouthfeel: Incredibly smooth and silky for its size. (13.2% ABV). Full bodied with perfect Co2. A real pleasure to drink.

Overall: After trying BA Dark Star earlier this year we thought it would be impossible to top it. Well, they have…this is next level. Outstanding drop.
