North coast brewing co. ‘old Rasputin’ Russian imperial stout

Rating:

northCoast_oldRasputinRussianImperial“Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish. The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.”

Another sensational addition to the repertoire from the boys at north coast brewing co.from the states. Served in a beer tulip the mat black pour produced a big 3 finger tan head that slowly dissipated to a thin cap on top. Good head retention and lacing. A typically rich, heavy and roasted aroma and flavour to this complex but brilliant stout, honestly a few of these and 1. You won’t need a meal and 2. If you don’t have that meal you’ll be on your way to that heavily applied garlic sauce kebab quicker than you know. At 9% ABV it’s pretty strong but to be honest the high content doesn’t affect the abundance of roasted flavours happening on the palate. Very impressive stout displaying great duration on the tongue. If you like your dark beers tasting like roasted malts, chocolate and espresso we definitely recommend you try this. Tip: most stouts should be consumed around 4-5 degrees warmer than other styles of beer so before you drink it, leave it out of the fridge for about 15 minutes beforehand.
