Bear Republic ‘Further Thru The Haze’ Double IPA

Rating:

Glassware: IPA

Appearance: Hazy golden amber with a sturdy two finger head. It holds its shape and weaves a fine lace down the sides of the glass.

Aroma: Citrus-forward with heady notes of ruby grapefruit and lemon drops. Also picking up strong hints of honeydew melon and fresh pine needles. It’s awesome to see our very own Vic Secret hops play a role in the aroma with its classic passion fruit, piney/herbal and mild tropical fruit accents.

Flavour: More or less the same as the aroma – grapefruit, lemon (fresh and candied), pine needle, melon, shallot, tropical fruits and sweet orange citrus i.e blood orange and tangerine. The wheaty grains and oats come through a lot more with its kind of creamy and dry profile. Mildly dry finish with citrus and pine drawing out.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, silky, a touch dry. Medium body and Co2. The 8% ABV makes it dangerously sessional.

Overall: Kind of like a hazy West Coast IPA. To be honest we were expecting a bit more (after visiting the Rohnert Park brewhouse and tasting their whole range) we know what they’re capable of. They have better offerings that’s for sure.
