Flying dog ‘doggie style’ Pale ale

Rating:

image“The alpha of the pack, Doggie Style Pale Ale complements a wide range of foods. Flavor notes: Grassy, citrus, and slight perfume hop aromas with subtlety sweet malt body Pairs with: Cheddar cheese, burgers, barbeque, Thai, Mexican”

Served in a shaker glass. From the pour the appearance displays a slightly hazy golden orange with a fizzy 1 inch head that retains well. Some thick random lacing is left but not a great deal. A really good mix of fruity and floral hops on offer here. Light toasty notes with a delicate scent of toffee. Some bitter grapefruit adds zestiness while the pine resins and a soft herbal undertones create a lovely aroma with decent depth. In the mouth it feels quite dry but there is a subtle soft smoothness to it. Medium carbonation with moderate-medium body. Only 35 IBU which is surprising because it’s quite hoppy initially, the bitterness subsides and the mid-palate takes on a dry fruity approach. Finish is quite bitter with hints of citrus and herbs. Essentially, it’s a nice, easy drinking pale ale but a tad unbalanced. The hops outweigh the rarely used Carastan malts which, in retrospect is almost hidden. 5.5% ABV does add some extra bite. To be honest, it’s not a bad drop but there are better APA’s out there..
