Garage Project X Balter ‘Dray Haze’ Hazy IPA

Rating:

“Founded on a friendship formed at the Yakima Valley hop harvest and inspired by an exciting new hop variety, we’ve brewed up a very special collaboration. Two versions, one brewed at each of our respective breweries, both showcasing a specially selected lot of Yakima Chief’s new 2019 harvest Sabro hops fresh from the legendary Perrault Farm, blended with Motueka at Balter and Galaxy at the Garage. Designed with a lighter body, hop character shines through in these refreshingly dry hazy brews, each bursting with their own unique blend of tropical fruits, citrus, tangerine and coconut. Isn’t it nice when we all get along.”

Glassware: IPA

Appearance: Turbid pastel yellow with a short head which peels off quickly. Hardly any head left behind so hardly any lace seen as we hook in.

Aroma: One of the things we love most in good NEIPA’s is that strong peppery spice and this has it in spades. Tonnes of brekky juice character, frosty fruits and juice concentrate. Big impressions of herbal spice – aniseed, Thai basil and lemongrass. Subtle grapefruit, orange rind, green mango, unripened pineapple and a dry crusty/bready malt bill filling it out. Superb!

Flavour: Really interesting. It’s juicy AF but only in flavour as it’s also dry as a bone! Kinda chalky and bready, subtle white pepper, dried herbs and orange rind. Coconut flakes, oats, orange citrus and grapefruit feature in a long drawn out finish.

Mouthfeel: Super dry! Chalky and just… parched. It’s somewhat creamy too. Medium body with a nice spritzy Co2. 6% ABV neither here nor there.

Overall: We can see why they call it “dry haze”. It’s as dry as a Nun’s you know what. Not a bad drop, probably wouldn’t return to it though.
