We started with the base recipe for PM Dawn American Stout, then slightly dialed back the ratio of cold brew Italian Roast from Barrington to allow the heavy dose of Peanut Butter to find it’s perfect place in the flavor profile and balance the beer.”

Glassware: Snifter.

Appearance: Solid black with a short tan head. There’s a quick retreat to the rim with minimal lace as it subsides.

Aroma: We could literally smell it as we were pouring it in to our glasses. The peanut butter, although rich and moreish, was still meticulous in its delivery. With it comes hints of other assorted nuts and a fleeting hint of coconut and vanilla but the base PM Dawn aromas of charred malt, espresso coffee, cacao, dark chocolate and mild earthy spice fills it all out.

Flavour: The addition of peanut butter to this stout is genius. It’s actually quite a simple flavour profile but it has just been executed to perfection. The supporting flavours i.e coffee, dark chocolate, soft licorice and roasted malts result in an absolutely delicious and superbly balanced stout which goes the distance.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and inoffensive…almost silky. Medium-full body. Let’s remember we’re talking about a 10% AbV stout here. The way it glides over the tongue is criminal!

Overall: It’s pretty black and white….if you love peanut butter then you will love this! Although we’re somewhat impartial to peanut butter we think the addition of it here is brilliant. It screams dessert beer….and a high quality one at that!
