2014 beer specTAPular , VIC

Rating:

imageWithout a doubt the best beer festival other than Oktoberfest that we have visited. So many microbrewers showcasing in bottles their top brews. One of our favourites was tuatara from NZ. We loved the 110 experimental taps on show. Tasting paddles consisted of 5 85ml tasters. We managed to try every one, and for us the top two were the rocky road desert beer from Bacchus brewing in QLD, and the hazelnut praline beer from la Serine. Bloody amazing. Of note is the Conehead from tuatara ( see across). It was a lovely hoppy IPA. We will be there next year for sure. A must for craft beer lovers.

10433792_271154196402066_6088956814639648170_nSituated in Sylvania in the southern suburbs of Sydney is this brand new Brasserie boasting a brilliant offering of craft beers on tap and bottle. Out of the 10 taps pouring the liquid gold, 4 are pouring their core range which includes a Kolsch, Australian ale, Red ale and a Stout. The other 6 include sensational beers from breweries such as Illawarra brewing co, Hop Dog beer works and Doctor’s orders brewing. If you’re heading down, be sure to try their “beergustation” which is a delicious pairing of 4 tapas style meals to their 4 core range of beers, and for only $25 you get more than what you pay for. The only down side is the licence they hold does not allow for consumption of beverages without food, but don’t let that deter you because the food is top notch and not too badly priced. So, if you’re ever in the area drop in and have a couple of tap crafties and a delicious meal. Impressive.

Young Henry’s brewery. Newtown

The beers on tap were ranging from a light, summery lager to a big, hoppy APA to a hearty brown ale and of course their famous real ale. There was a pop up food stall/bus serving American street food which went down like bread and butter with the beers. Great atmosphere and decent service adds extra appeal to this already inviting establishment. A definite recommendation from us.

Trip to the Cascade brewery

1410955_199759780208175_233185627_oHey all,

Our first trip to the oldest brewery in Australia! Known more for it’s history than it’s beers it was a gorgeous little set up. Offering 8 taps ranging from their light all the way through to the stout, and also including our favourite – the first harvest ale. If you’re ever heading down to old Hobart town we definitely recommend popping in for lunch and a few cold ones straight from the kegs. Enjoy.

Colonial brewery

922776_140505802800240_399803314_nThis microbrewery gem near Margaret river is probably the best out of the bunch. The cheeky monkey brewery has a better location but the beers at colonial are more refined and not so ‘home brewed’. Get the tasting paddle but we thought the kolsch was the standout.

Murray’s Craft Brewery

Rating:

This place is simply heaven. We have been coming up to Murray’s for years as the venue, the beer, the atmosphere and the food is simply amazing. Furthermore, one of us Hopheads actually married his long time love right here at the brewery/vineyard. If you’re ever in the Port Stephens area be sure to pop in and have a few beers, try some of their delicious pub grub and fill up your growlers with a selection of their finest beers. Trust us, if you know a great venue you’ll be back!

Local taphouse darlinghurst. Great beer

Rating:

This place rocks! They have a huge selection of local and international craft beer that’s rotated often. It’s situated near Oxford St Darlinghurst and quite close to Allianz stadium and the SCG so it’s a perfect spot to sink a few crafties before the footy or cricket.
