“A heavy malt foundation includes Crystal malt for sweetness and just enough Midnight Wheat malt to push the color to black. The bitterness is huge, but balanced by malt sweetness. The hop flavors and aromas range from citrus to floral to pine thanks to a delicious blend of hand-selected Chinook and Centennial hops.”
The new boy on the block from this sensational USA brewery, coming at us at 8.9% ABV this bad boy looks as sinful as the word itself!. Enough to want to repent upon completion!. OK enough of that, on with the review…Pouring a mat black with ruby red edges on the bottom of the glass, and a little bubbly head that forms after a tan oily pour on the glass. Beautiful aroma of rocky road here on the nose..delish. Mouthfeel is full and low carbonated with scents of chocolate malt, mild grapefruit hop, pine needle, notes of coffee. Nicely roasted as one would expect. The palate backs up the roasted malt, grapefruit, lemon, and digestive biscuit. Not too bitter here, but nice solid roasted grain. Just such a nice resin hop nose as you imbibe. It’s an imperial but the booze is hidden well. There is no lacing on the glass as it slides down. We love founders bit this is not the very best…it is pretty good though, take nothing away from this good drop.
