Illawarra brewing co. ‘apocalypso’ American IPA

imageOn tap at the brewery in Wollongong. Served in a standard schooner glass the clear golden pour offers a decent, lasting white head. OK lacing. Gorgeous aroma packed full of American hops that are providing tropical fruity notes – lychee, passion fruit, grape fruit, mango and pine. Quite a subtle caramel malt backing to balance. Oily mouth feel with medium body. Medium carbonation. Lovely hop bitterness is present throughout. Similar fruits that show in the aroma follow on to the palate with lychee, citrus, pine and orange peel dominating over the caramel malt base. 6% ABV is spot on ¬†and doesn’t overpower whatsoever. Considering the high hop bitterness it isn’t too sessional but definitely good for a couple. Easily the best beer we’ve tried from their range so far. Tasty American IPA.
