Illawarra brewing co. porter

Rating:

imageOn tap at the brewery in Wollongong. Dark cola like pour with a slight mahogany hue. Short tan head that leaves a good trail of spotted lacing on the way down. The aroma initially offers a slightly tart character which is quite off putting, although underneath that lies a mix of dark malts, chocolate and coffee. The body and weight is pretty good. Nice, creamy mouth feel with mild carbonation. At first the flavour comes off as a bit weak but the bitter hops shows up followed by the lingering cocoa, espresso and roasted malts on the back of the palate. Also a long hop dryness is here to be enjoyed in the finish. As most porters go, it’s not overly sessionable but it’s a nice, approachable sipping beer. Not bad.
