Amager bryghus ‘wookiee’ IPA

Rating:

imageThis Wookie IPA is a collaborative brew with Californian Port Brewing, Mike Rodriguez and founder and brew chief Tom Arthur who was on a tour in Denmark on March 9, 2011. It is as true West Coast IPA, which is not spared hops. And there is no jantelov when we say that we are proud of this beer.”

What a top Danish brewery this is. Served in an IPA glass the golden-orange pour constructs a healthy two and a bit finger white head that slowly recedes to a thin covering on top. Average lacing. Very refreshing and zesty aroma with a subtle base of caramel malt. Floral notes of grapefruit, peach, apricot and pine. We also picked up a slightly sweet malt aroma on the back end as well displaying good depth. Mouth feel is dry and full with medium carbonation. Medium body. The taste is bitter from the generous use of hops and maintains an aggressive dryness in the mouth from start to finish. Very citric, with hints of orange peel, pine and grapefruit carrying through the mid-palate and finishing dry with lengthy duration. At 7.2% ABV and considering the high levels of acidity in the beer it makes it far from sessional, but, like us, if you’re into your big, bitter and citric IPA’s it is an enjoyable sipping beer.
