“Throwing some citrus and pine from our Mountains line,
To supply some sunshine to our hill top scene,
And bringing the bitter back in the variety
Of the Notorious West Coast style type.
Might as well find some time to put up that Hollywood sign right up in lights on Mt Solitary.
‘Cause line upon line of Pacific hop bines,
Are added multiple times into its malty sea,
From the California Coast to MCBC.
Yeah, it ain’t just the yeast that’s gone Back to Cali!”
Glassware: IPA
Appearance: Bright amber with 100% clarity. It forms a sturdy two finger head which retains. Good lacing as we go.
Aroma: Back to Cali alright. Crisp and fresh notes of pine needle, grapefruit, citrus rind, lemongrass, apple juice, orange citrus and spicy resins but well grounded by a gritty and earthy caramel which adds a lovely line of sweetness. God dang it that’s good. Not quite on Korben D level but agonisingly close.
Flavour: It comes on with all of that West Coast goodness…crisp and zippy pine/resin, ripe grapefruit and mixed citrus, herbal spice, florals and white pepper. All kept in check by this gorgeous (yet well tempered) caramel malt sweetness. It finishes like any good West Coast IPA should – dry, bitter and grassy/piney with good length.
Mouthfeel: Crisp (there’s that word again!) Zingy and sharp but well balanced. Medium body and Co2. 7.6% ABV is spot on.
Overall: Love it love it love it! We just want to bathe in it if we can. MC need to make this part of their core range coz we’d be buying it in cartons. This is exactly how we want a WC IPA to be. The business!
