Seeker Neapolitan Milk Stout

Rating:

“This dessert style milk stout has been layered with rich cocoa, Madagascar vanilla and loads of strawberries to replicate the classic ice cream flavour.”

Glassware: Snifter.

Appearance: Mat black with a quickly vanishing head. It settles at the rim and struggles to produce much lace as we hook in.

Aroma: Smelling that creamy strawberry from miles away! They’ve really got the Neapolitan character dialled in. Definitely sensing the chocolate/lightly roasted malt and the caramel and vanilla are there but a little more reserved. As it settles the lactose/vanilla gets a boost as does the strawberry once again. Other than that it seems to be a bit of a one trick pony.

Flavour: Literally like getting a bit of every flavour and shoving it in our mouths all at once. We’re liking how they’ve taken the safer approach and toned down the sweet creamy side which has allowed the Stout base to counteract with some assertive roasty notes and bitterness. The finish is unfortunately a little lacklustre and eventually fades out all too easily.

Mouthfeel: It holds up reasonably well. A little light on for a double Stout but we’ll forgive them as the 8.6% ABV is well buried. Co2 is spot on.

Overall: We’ve been seeing and hearing a lot about this new Illawarra brewery. We’ll admit there’s a hint of hype behind this purchase. Although it didn’t overly excite us it’s still a pretty decent drop. Keen to check out what the rest of their range offers.
