“Freshwater is an American style pale ale, brewed using our favourite American hop, Cascade. The Freshwater is well balanced between the sweet biscuity malt and the thirst quenching hop flavour and crispy clean finish.”
Served in a shaker glass. The appearance offers a slightly hazy amber hue with a relatively well retained finger of off white foam topping it off. The lace trail is wet and streaky as we imbibe. A nice face full of Cascade hop aroma leads out offering wafts of grapefruit, mixed citrus, spicy notes, light florals and a kind of peachy and or stonefruit accent. Both ends of the spectrum are well represented here as a lovely biscuit malt sweetness imparts suggestions of Anzac cookies and promotes an excellent all round balance. Solid aroma. The mouth feel is light on but held up by a medium body and a lifted Co2. The 35 IBU initiates with a bit of punch but tapers off nicely in to the swallow. Very smooth and elegant on the palate. Taste wise she pretty much continues on from the nose – an upfront hop bite provides the bitter grapefruit and citrus as the sweet biscuit malt slips in behind. The middle hits a bit of a piney note before it finishes on a balanced platform of citrus fruits, light malt sweetness and a delicate bitterness that draws out well on the rear. Geez doesn’t this one hit the spot?! It’s super clean, highly sessional and full flavoured. What more can you ask of a pale ale? This is a beer we can certainly see ourselves returning to. Solid drop.
