Green flash brewery ‘le freak’ ale

Rating:

greenFlash_leFreak“Le Freak™ is the first-ever hybrid ale of its kind: the convergence of a Belgian-Style Trippel with an American Imperial IPA. Spawned over barstool pontifications between Publican and Brewmaster, this zesty Amarillo dry-hopped, bottle-conditioned marvel entices with fruity Belgian yeast aromatics and a firm, dry finish. Experience a legendary beer phenomenon.” We served this in an IPA glass but it could also be served in a wide-rimmed tulip glass. The appearance offers a deep amber with golden/honey highlights and a slight haziness. Topping it off was a puffy 2 finger head that persists well, eventually reducing to a firm covering with healthy lace trails. Very complex aroma here….a sweet combination of sherbet, tangy orange, banana lollies, spices and bubblegum blends brilliantly with hop-forward scents of pineapple, passion fruit, floral pine and mandarin. So sweet and yet not one bit cloying. What an incredible fusion of aromas. In the mouth it’s full and round with good weight. Only minimal grip as it slides down. Carbonation is vibrant with a slight tickle on the tongue. Nice balanced sweetness on the palate upfront, we taste a hint of bubblegum and tangy citrus over yeasty banana bread. As this carries forward through the mid an assertive hop bitterness forms and becomes more extreme as it flows well on to the back end. The 9.2% ABV finally comes to the party as it develops late in the mid leading to a sweet, fruity and ultimately dry finish. Wow. We already hold this brewery in very high regard and every time we try one of their brews our respect for them some how reaches a new high. This is a delicious beer pumped full of flavour, balance and complexity. Excellent offering. Thank you Green Flash!
