Served in an IPA glass. This bad boy pours a hazy amber hue with an orange tint. It knocks up a two finger head that maintains its height well as it leaves a thick, soapy lace clinging to the glass.
The almighty Citra hop! It has been our favorite American hop for years, there aren’t many others that can top it in our view. It provides that beautiful candied lemon aroma along with pine nettles, grapefruit and passion fruit. Maybe even hinting at oranges and a trace of marmalade getting a look in. There’s a nice sweetness being added by the caramel malts too, keeping those gorgeous Citra hops in line. Brilliant stuff.
The body is quite dense and full with a chewy texture. The Co2 is excellent, giving the overall feel a lift as the 45 IBU provides a good all round bitterness. It’s certainly a firm mouth feel but it’s well balanced and still somewhat approachable.
The taste buds are sent in to a frenzy once those delicious Citra hops wash over. Grapefruit, passion fruit, candied lemons and pine carry in to the sweet caramel notes midway. Hints of lemongrass lead in to the dry, bitter and super fruity finish that offers good endurance in the tail.
Solid beer. They would have had to absolutely butcher it for us to dislike it but from a quality world class brewery like Knee Deep that was never going to happen. Superb use of this hop, the aroma and flavour represent everything that’s good about it with a solid malt base to fill it out. Tasty stuff.
